They demand that the United Kingdom return the Great Star of Africa diamond

South Africa asks the British royal family in the wake of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the return of the largest known cut diamond in the world

Better known as the Great Star of Africa or Cullinan I, extracted from South Africa in 1905 and carved from a larger range, which was given to the British royal family by the South African colonial authorities.

Today, this diamond belongs to the queen mounted on a scepter.

There are demands for the return of the Great Star of Africa and other diamonds, as well as requests for repatriation. With the queen's death, many South Africans say Britain's acquisition of the jewels was illegitimate.
