Puerto Ricans in Chicago Unite to Help People Affected by Hurricane Fiona

After the destruction of the island's electrical system by the passage of Hurricane Fiona, Puerto Ricans in Chicago are working on a plan to help the victims.

Five years after Hurricane Maria hit the island, Fiona is now hitting the island, a Category 4 with the destruction of Puerto Rico's power grid causing nearly 3,000 deaths.

Fiona, in her category 1, devastated the entire electrical system of the island this Sunday afternoon.

Jesse Fuentes, a Puerto Rican organizer with The Puerto Rican Agenda said, “We have to have real conversations about building an infrastructure that can sustain itself.”

Therefore, Puerto Rican organizations in Chicago have taken on the task of creating an action plan to help people affected by the hurricane.
