Benefits May be Available for Students Playing for a University or College

It was long thought that college athletes were not employees as that term is defined by the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Act. This may no longer be true—especially in Illinois. Recently the National Labor Relations Board stated that Northwestern University football players are permitted to unionize. Frankly, I agree that college athletes should be covered by the workers’ compensation laws. That means that injured students could be entitled to all of the benefits that a union laborer is entitled to when they are injured on the job. If you have any additional questions regarding this or any other workers’ compensation issue, please call Jack Epstein at the Epstein Law Firm in Chicago, Illinois. Do not wait—your time to file a case is limited in Illinois.
